Jongha Choi

Jongha Choi studied Fine Arts at Seoul National University in Korea, majoring in sculpture. To extend his practice, he followed his interest in design by completing a Masters degree at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 2015. He went on to found Jongha Choi Studio in Seoul, working in the field of art and design.

We are not only seeing the image as a means of reproducing objects, but also giving essential identity to the image itself. In other words, though the image still shows its visual effect on a flat plane, it is not just an expression of representation, but a real experience. In our current situation, in which modern society experiences the image, in relation to advertising, image circulation and the internet, why do we not question an images’ confinement to a flat surface. Why don’t we try to get more stereoscopic and attempt for direct experience with the image.

Jongha Choi ha studiato Belle Arti alla Seoul National University in Corea, specializzandosi in scultura. Per ampliare la sua esperienza, ha seguito il suo interesse per il design completando un master alla Design Academy Eindhoven, nei Paesi Bassi, nel 2015. Ha poi fondato il Jongha Choi Studio a Seoul, lavorando nel campo dell’arte e del design.

Non stiamo vedendo l’immagine solo come un mezzo per riprodurre oggetti, ma anche dando un’identità essenziale all’immagine stessa. In altre parole, anche se l’immagine mostra ancora il suo effetto visivo su un piano piatto, non è solo un’espressione di rappresentazione, ma un’esperienza reale. Nella nostra situazione attuale, in cui la società moderna sperimenta l’immagine, in relazione alla pubblicità, alla circolazione delle immagini e a internet, perché non mettere in discussione il vincolo di un’immagine su una superficie piatta. Perché non cerchiamo di diventare più stereoscopici e tentare un’esperienza diretta con l’immagine.
