SHIAU is a shoemaker and designer based in Taipei and Firenze, the creator behind Shiau Atelier space. She was born in Taiwan, a little tropical island located in the heart of Asia, where she has trained and learnt to become a shoe designer in conjunction with skills in multi-disciplines. She started her shoemaking journey in 2016 Florence, Italy, when she realized the importance of preserving knowledge and crafts during her shoe design career, and that has led to who she is today.

“Craftsmanship, a time-consuming process, yet create the most high-quality, elegant pieces.” – She said.

Her training in Traditional Handmade Shoes (hand-welted)/ Art and Craft (wood-making) has allowed her to understand the in-depth knowledge and know-how of shoemaking, whilst interpreting the aesthetic under her own perspective.

SHIAU‘s shoes and art work are the fusion of east and west, inspired by her life perception in Europe and Asia. She loves the vibes of vintage, art atelier and handmade, which bring up to her uniqueness. Using experimental methods redefine “old good stuff”, SHIAU aims to create elegant pieces for the wearers.

Classic Beauty – Hand-welted Loafer shoes

Materials: Italian full grain leather, Vegetable tanned leather sole, Rubber.

Classic Beauty is a collection to call for culture sustainability. It was inspired by the beauty of Renaissance heritage in Florence, Italy, where designer SHIAU captured the moment, the people, vibes, colours during her stay in this romantic city and yet, transforming it into her pieces of works. SHIAU have combined different materials, colours, techniques and constructions to reopen the dialogue of arts and crafts into shoes.

This Hand-welted Loafer shoes design was another creation of elegancy inside the collection of Classic Beauty. You can see this loafer using masculine style, dress shoes, however the line and details focus on a more feminine look. The idea was to break, or you can say, playing around the elements that blur the line of gender by creative approach.

For the technical part, this design use stitch-down construction, where the upper part of the shoe was reversed out and then hand stitched down with the leather shoe sole. The upper was designed in two-tone colours, to reflex the combination of classic back to old good time…

SHIAU è una produttrice di scarpe e designer con sede a Taipei e Firenze, la creatrice dello spazio Shiau Atelier. È nata a Taiwan, una piccola isola tropicale situata nel cuore dell’Asia, dove si è formata, è diventata una designer di scarpe e insieme a sviluppato competenze in diverse discipline. Ha iniziato il suo viaggio nella creazione di scarpe nel 2016 a Firenze, in Italia, quando ha capito l’importanza di preservare la conoscenza artigiane durante la sua carriera di designer, e questo l’ha portata a chi è oggi.

“L’artigianato, un processo che richiede tempo, eppure crea i pezzi più eleganti e di alta qualità”. – Ha detto.

La sua formazione in Scarpe Artigianali Tradizionali (intrecciate a mano)/ Arte e Artigianato (fabbricazione del legno) le ha permesso di comprendere la conoscenza approfondita e il know-how della produzione di scarpe, pur interpretando l’estetica sotto la propria prospettiva.

Le scarpe e le opere d’arte di SHIAU sono la fusione di est e ovest, ispirate dalla sua percezione della vita in Europa e in Asia. Ama le energie del vintage, dell’art atelier e del fatto a mano, che portano alla sua unicità. Usando metodi sperimentali ridefinisce “le vecchie cose buone”, SHIAU mira a creare pezzi eleganti per chi li indossa.

Classic Beauty – Scarpe mocassino intrecciate a mano

Materiali: Pelle italiana, Suola in cuoio conciato, Gomma. 

Classic Beauty è una collezione per richiamare la sostenibilità della cultura. È stata ispirata dalla bellezza del patrimonio rinascimentale di Firenze, Italia, dove la designer SHIAU ha catturato il momento, la gente, le vibrazioni, i colori durante il suo soggiorno in questa città romantica e ancora, trasformandolo nei suoi pezzi di lavoro. SHIAU ha combinato diversi materiali, colori, tecniche e costruzioni per riaprire il dialogo tra arti e mestieri nelle scarpe. 

Questo design di scarpe mocassino intrecciato a mano è un’altra creazione di eleganza all’interno della collezione di Classic Beauty. Si può vedere questo mocassino con uno stile maschile, scarpe da abito, tuttavia la linea e i dettagli si concentrano su un look più femminile. L’idea era quella di rompere, o si può dire, giocare intorno agli elementi che confondono la linea di genere con un approccio creativo. 

Per la parte tecnica, questo design usa la costruzione stitch-down, dove la parte superiore della scarpa è stata invertita e poi cucita a mano con la suola di cuoio. La tomaia è stata progettata in colori bicolore, per riflettere la combinazione del classico ritorno ai vecchi tempi…
